Jay’s Barcelona camp experience was truly unforgettable. For seven days, he lived in the dorms and experienced a wonderful balance of learning, culture, and independence. Each morning, he received one-on-one Spanish instruction customized to his current proficiency level, while his afternoons were filled with activities and historical tours throughout Barcelona. One of the highlights was sharing a room with a student from France, giving him an opportunity to connect with someone from another culture. Most importantly, the experience encouraged Jay to navigate new situations, solve problems independently, and become more confident in himself. He came home with wonderful memories, greater independence, and an experience that extended far beyond the classroom.

Our daughter, Evanie, was a first-time camper, and she was both excited and nervous about traveling without us. The first couple of days were a little challenging as she adjusted to being away from family, in a new country, surrounded by new people. But by the third day, everything changed. She had made new friends, stepped completely out of her comfort zone, and embraced every new experience. This trip was so much more than a vacation—it was a life-changing experience. Evanie learned independence, made decisions on her own, managed the spending money we gave her responsibly, kept track of all her belongings, and even hand-washed her own clothes! (Something she would never voluntarily do at home! 😊) She adapted, grew in confidence, and returned home more mature than when she left. When we signed her up, I thought we were simply paying for an amazing travel experience. What she gained was far beyond what we paid for. She came home with priceless life skills, unforgettable memories, and friendships that will last a lifetime. A heartfelt thank you to Rooted Journeys for giving our children the opportunity to see the world through travel and cultural immersion. And an extra special thank you to Mrs. Kay for the incredible care she provides. From the moment parents say goodbye until the children are safely back home, she treats them like her own. She keeps parents updated every single day with photos and videos of the kids' adventures, which gives such peace of mind—especially since the children are having so much fun that they barely remember to call home! Thank you, Rooted Journeys and Mrs. Kay, for creating an experience that builds confidence, independence, and a love for exploring the world. We are beyond grateful, and Evanie is already looking forward to the next trip!

Overall great time. Packed schedule which is double-edged gamble: do a lot vs. feeling well rested. Important to have realistic expectations of timeline when travelling in other countries (norms are different), and important to have flexibility in itinerary when travelling in a group. Itinerary may look pretty packed before getting started, but by the end, due to group dynamics, you may miss out on several things. Although we have little control over country norms, it is important to have a little more consistency with groups' expectations. 'Pole pole' is acceptable local behavior, but should not be expected of the tourist group that has limited time to do what was planned. Overall friendly group, and good organization.

This trip was fantastic! Kay, Sly and the chaperones were great! The trip was organized and well planned out. I felt very comfortable leaving my child is their care. The daily language classes were awesome and the afternoon excursions were super fun! I loved that the whole trip was very thoughtful in exposing the children to the local culture and food. My daughter really enjoyed the experience and the residence was very well-located. Kay and Sly were also communicative and welcoming. They were very open to include family that was in the area and engaging with the group. I would highly recommend Rooted Journeys by the Mom Trotter! I am looking forward to seeing what the next summer adventure will be!

Our kids had a wonderful time at the summer camp in Tokyo! Kay and Sylvester took great care of them, as though they were their own children.
