- ExcursionsEach two-week session includes at least two full-day and daily half-day excursions. These trips introduce students to the rich diversity of Japanese culture, food, history and more.

This trip was fantastic! Kay, Sly and the chaperones were great! The trip was organized and well planned out. I felt very comfortable leaving my child is their care. The daily language classes were awesome and the afternoon excursions were super fun! I loved that the whole trip was very thoughtful in exposing the children to the local culture and food. My daughter really enjoyed the experience and the residence was very well-located. Kay and Sly were also communicative and welcoming. They were very open to include family that was in the area and engaging with the group. I would highly recommend Rooted Journeys by the Mom Trotter! I am looking forward to seeing what the next summer adventure will be!

Our kids had a wonderful time at the summer camp in Tokyo! Kay and Sylvester took great care of them, as though they were their own children. They packed the schedule with so many great activities and were sure to include learning and cultural immersion in the process! We would definitely recommend the camp to other families! Thank you for the experience!

Overall, very good trip. My son really enjoyed it, especially the class. The school and teachers were great! Kay and Mr. Sly were wonderful, and I fully trusted them with my child, so far away from home in a different country. The outings were good. My only feedback would be a smaller group, or split the younger and older kids into groups.

This trip was everything we expected: learning, fun, discovery and friendship! It was an amazing experience as a family to discover Ghana, its history and its present. Being in a group in which everyone was up for discovery made it even more fun. We are so grateful we were able to go and can't wait for the next trip!

My son had a great time at Spanish camp in Madrid! We were naturally very nervous, but knowing the MomTrotter was there to handle any issues was very reassuring. I don't think I would have let him go alone. Very grateful he was able to have this wonderful experience!

My son had an absolutely amazing time at Camp Tokyo Japan! The outcome was truly inspiring! Kay, Sylvester and the camp counselors provided an environment for my son that fostered guided independence, confidence, responsibility and communication. My son enjoyed the classes and gained a “favorite teacher” in his 2 week studies -pretty impressive. The daily excursions did not disappoint! The meals, snacks, bonding, horseplay and overall experience was truly a core memory moment! We look forward to branding our future adventures with Kay and Sylvester -Rooted Journeys!

We are grateful beyond words to Kay & Sly for taking such excellent care of our son over the past 2 weeks. This was his 2nd trip and we're already waiting to see where summer '26 will take him (and maybe us)! Wrangling all the kids, the schedules, cultural and local experiences, meal, 2 birthday celebrations, and so much more - is surely no small task. My son and nephew travelled with Kay and Sly to the Japan Sleepaway Summer Camp 2025. It was an absolute amazing experience for both my family and I to experience. They were genuinely extremely patient, kind and caring. 10/10 highly recommended.
